Giving Back with Gratitude

“We Make A Living By What We Get. We Make A Life By What We Give.” ~ Sir Winston S. Churchill

In 2018 Buchanan Virtual Office started and while we were putting together our business plan, we had a very clear vision of the change we would like to see for the future of others in our community. All the members of our team have a vision of their contributions and as a business we honor those visions. We may not have organized something significant in nature, but we are getting there. We are humbled everyday with the daily contributions to all of our communities, and we continue to scale by nature. What truly inspires us today, especially in these unprecedented times as we look forward to future opportunities. We’re incredibly grateful to be able to give back and look forward to giving back bigger than the previous every time.

Being Grateful Is Universal

Volunteering your time to support a cause you are passionate about is something you will never regret. It will enrich your life and those around you, familiarize yourself with your community, and connect you to people and ideas that will positively impact your perspective for the rest of your life. Helping your community is an opportunity for you to grow as a person, as a business, and to better understand how you fit into the world around you.

Why is it so important to give back to your community?

Why is it so important to find a cause you love and volunteer your time? Or choosing an event that drives you to make the world a better place? Spending time enriching your community is a great way to broaden your perceptions of the world. By immersing yourself in a community or cause and surrounding yourself with people who are dedicated to bettering the world, you can learn so much about how the world works. You gain a unique sense of purpose by serving those around you, one which often manifests in other areas of your life. Giving back to the place you call home – community or purpose – helps to unite others and community, as well as bridge some of the social, economic, and political gaps.

What are some of the benefits of volunteering?

Donating your time to support those around you or to fill a need is extremely beneficial, for you, your community, or the community you choose to serve. It is statistically proven that people who volunteer regularly are healthier both physically and mentally. Individuals who have volunteered throughout their lifetime typically live longer and have better psychological well-being. In addition to the health benefits, volunteering gives people a sense of purpose. The fulfilling feeling of giving back and contributing to society is unparalleled.

You also enhance skills you already have when you volunteer. For one, people skills – people skills is different when you are out there connecting with the community and being passionate about something that fuels you but some other skills you enhance while dedicating your time is patience, kindness, and resilience. You will also improve your communication abilities by working alongside a diverse team of people, connecting with others in your community, or raising funds for a cause that is close and dear to your heart. Volunteering might even help you discover a new passion or interest.

How can you get involved in your community?

There are so many important causes out there that always need volunteers to support the work that they are doing. Whether you’re passionate about advocacy, animal rights, or helping the homeless, you can find a valuable way to donate your time. Many towns and cities have community centers, which can be a great place to find opportunities to give back. Have you thought about having a child’s birthday party and asking your guest to donate a new present for places like Ronald McDonald House?

Here are some ways our team at Buchanan Virtual Office gives back –

  • After a trip to Puerto Rico, Kaitlyn was astonished by the cost of simple backpacks in a local Walmart - $45 and up, not to mention the cost of school supplies. Kaitlyn has decided that she wants to create backpacks for elementary school children in Puerto Rico, especially in the rural areas where the means are less.

  • A close and personal cause to mine and Shane’s hearts is helping the transgender community feel seen and supported through access to life-saving health and wellness needs like chest binders, femme shapewear, and we are working on putting together grants for those who need help with surgery, HRT, and/or electrolysis funding.

  • As an artist herself, DonnCherie understands the struggles that happen while pursuing your passion for limited means, but it is the one thing that fuels passion is being a creative soul. She has given back by donating her time and skills with her bookkeeping services because this is something that artist can truly get into trouble with if it doesn’t have a bit of tender loving care.

  • Being a parent of young children, Stacie’s heart lies with the compassion and strength of children being seen and heard, as well as the necessity of having fur-babies in all our lives with their unconditional love. If Stacie can find a way of making a living by following her passion for children and animals, trust me she would (well she has but it wasn’t sustainable).

  • And we cannot forget the new legal support the Buchanan Virtual Office has to offer – our counsel on hand, Mark is a Board Member of Sail Beyond Cancer USA. Mark shares his legal and business advise not just to his clients but as a member of the board. He loves the strength and vision behind the mission of Sail Beyond Cancer and will do what he can to continue the service it provides to the community.

Buchanan Virtual Office is extremely proud of each and every one of our hard-working Professional who give back every day in their own ways.

As a cancer survivor myself, and how cancer has affected members of team in some way we are proud to announce that Buchanan Virtual Office will be making a donation to Sail Beyond Cancer. On April 29th, keep an eye out for our social media post; for every like that the post receives we will be making a monetary donation. So, like the post and share it – all we need you to do is tag Buchanan Virtual Office.

I will close with this, figure out what fuels you and align yourself with organizations that you can volunteer your time with or start a fundraising event yourself and donate it.
